Running a Business and a Household: Entrepreneur Moms Need Self-Care

These days, more moms than ever are starting their own business so they can have it all. There are so many wonderful things about running a business, but it also comes with a ton of challenges, especially for parents. Here at Contra Costa Super Moms, we understand just how challenging having it all can be.

When you’re stretched thin between running a business and taking care of your family, it’s easy to feel like you’re going to snap. That’s why it’s so important to use good self-care tools. Here’s a look at some of the best ways to keep yourself moving forward (without losing your mind!).

Finish Straightforward To-Dos
This might feel counterintuitive, but one of the best forms of self-care entrepreneurs can do is to cut down on their to-do list. Everyone’s to-do list has a ton of simple, straightforward items that get put off because they’re too simple or low-priority. However, getting these simple little tasks done takes work off your plate and simplifies your life overall.

For example, maybe you’ve been meaning to register your business as an LLC for a while now, but haven’t gotten around to it yet. Take some time to get the process rolling, or reach out to a service that will do so for you. This is exactly the kind of task that will give you the biggest emotional boost — relatively straightforward but genuinely important, so you have the satisfaction of a job completed.

Recommit to Work-Life Balance
Working moms often feel like they’re always on. This makes sense; after all, caring for children is not necessarily less work than being on the clock. However, this gets that much harder when you don’t have any established boundaries between your work life and personal life.

Not only is this rough on you, but it also serves as a detriment all around. If you’re trying to entertain your kids while checking email, you’re going to feel extra stressed, the work isn’t going to be its best, and your kids aren’t going to feel like they have your full attention. Keep work at work in order to give yourself time to recharge and enjoy time with your loved ones.

Exercise Daily
Studies have shown again and again that as little as 30 minutes of exercise a day will make a massive difference for your physical and emotional well-being. However, fitting a half an hour of exercise into an already busy schedule can seem like an impossible feat. We’ve put together some ideas we hope help make this possible for you.

One great way to get your daily workout in and capture some much-needed alone time is to get up before the rest of your family. Now, this may not be feasible if your kids are the “up at 5 am” type, but for many moms, getting up an hour or so before the rest of your family creates a blissful moment of peace and focus in the morning that can’t be beat. Give yourself time to get moving, take a shower, and center yourself before you dive into parent and work mode.

If that’s not going to work for your schedule, you can work exercise into your playtime with your kids. For example, you can start making an evening dance party a regular part of your routine. Put on your favorite tunes and get jamming. Not only is this a great way to exercise, but it’s also a fun way to get some quality time with your little ones.

We hope these ideas help you get some relief. At the end of the day, these self-care steps are the best things you can do for yourself, your family, and your business. Give yourself the grace and kindness you need to unwind, recharge, and take the world by storm.
