Avocados!

Did you know that avocados not only taste great, but they also have numerous health benefits? We have all heard that avocados are a nutritious food to eat… But why is that? Avocados contain more potassium than bananas and are loaded with soluble and insoluble fiber. One cup (1/2 large avocado) serves up roughly 10 g of fiber, which is approximately 40% of your daily nutritional needs. Avocados are a low carbohydrate food, and can also help lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels. They contain heart healthy monounsaturated fatty acids and people who add avocados regularly to their diet tend to be healthier overall.

Cool fact:  Avocados are categorized as a single-seeded berry fruit.

Family tip: Slice an avocado and spread it on toast. Add a little salt and pepper or a sprinkle of lime juice for a little zing. Dice and avocado and add it to a salad or chicken salad for a powerful protein punch. Puréed avocados are also a fan favorite for little ones starting out on solids. Avocados are extremely versatile and can be used in many different recipes as well as a satisfying stand-alone snack!
